If you're up for a hike, the 400-foot-tall Waimoku Falls lies at the end of the Pipiwai Trail on the island of Maui. It's not uncommon to see people swimming in the pool at the base of Havasu Falls, and while there, visitors can venture several other waterfalls along the Havasu Creek. According to, the water gets its vibrant blue-green color from calcium carbonate and magnesium that occur naturally in the Havasu Creek. The National Park Service explains on their website that Havasupai means " people of the blue-green waters," a modest description of the beautiful waters that contrast with the red canyon cliffs. Open again for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Havasu Falls is an otherworldly waterfall at the Havasupai Indian Reservation within the Grand Canyon. Visitors interested in hiking can choose between a moderate 2.2 mile trail or a more difficult 5.4 mile trail, then grab a meal at the nearby Multnomah Falls Lodge, which offers breathtaking views of the falls. Forest Service, and the tallest waterfall in Oregon. The waterfall is the most visited natural recreation center in the Pacific Northwest, according to the U.S. Perhaps one of the most iconic landscapes in the state, Multnomah Falls is recognizable by its double tiers and the Multnomah Creek Bridge that stretches across it. Campsites are available in the park, and campers will be able to view the falls at sunset for some of the best views. Hikers can traverse along the canyon's rim, or you can view the falls from up close behind protective railings. Palouse Falls in Washtucna, Washington, provides an epic landscape with its 186-foot drop from a red, rocky canyon in the state park that bares its name, Palouse Falls State Park. Let’s run through a couple of Biden’s “Revocation” orders and their implications.įoremost in getting the Biden axe was Trump’s FebruExecutive Order 13,771, “ Reducing Regulation and Controlling Regulatory Cost.”Į.O. First, the premise is that government regulation is better for the economy in a downturn than the relaxation of it and the pursuit of resilience and growth and second, that it is OK to resurrect the Obama-era “pen and phone” to make law to advance progressive goals, despite that job properly resting with Congress. That alone is a significant philosophical stance. Biden vowed to revoke what he called Trump’s "harmful policies and directives that threaten to frustrate the Federal Government’s ability to confront these problems.” His order accordingly “empowers agencies to use appropriate regulatory tools to achieve these goals." immigration policy updates in the Migration Information Source, click here.Never mind that federal regulation is already the least disciplined part of what the federal government does, and that remained true under Trump. Read the article here: And to sign up for monthly U.S. “While most attention has focused on these unmet expectations, there can be no doubt that through large and small-bore executive actions alike the administration has advanced or changed policies in ways that have significant impact on humanitarian protection, immigration enforcement and legal immigration, touching the lives of large numbers of immigrants,” Chishti and Bolter conclude. Still, chaotic responses to high levels of migration at the southern border and lack of progress on two key Biden campaign promises-legalization for the country’s unauthorized immigrant population and rebuilding a border asylum system largely dismantled during the prior administration-have fueled public perception that the administration has done little on immigration. The administration also has acted to protect as many as 1 million noncitizens from deportation and give them eligibility to apply for a work permit by expanding Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for nationals from Venezuela and Myanmar who are already in the United States extending TPS designations that Trump sought to terminate for other nationalities but was blocked by the courts from carrying out and by allowing certain victims of crime who are petitioning for a U visa to receive deferred action while awaiting their visa adjudication. entry and to accessing immigration benefits and raising the refugee resettlement ceiling to 125,000. The Biden administration’s actions cover a wide range of issues-greatly narrowing the number of unauthorized immigrants vulnerable to arrest, detention and removal lifting some barriers to U.S. Of Biden’s 296 immigration actions, 89 have reversed or started to undo Trump policies, making clear the administration is doing more than unraveling his predecessor’s policies. Yet as Biden reaches his first anniversary in the White House, a new Migration Policy Institute (MPI) analysis finds that he has outpaced his predecessor in the number of executive actions taken during his first year in office, making significant change in the areas of humanitarian protection, interior and border enforcement and legal immigration.ĭuring his first 364 days as president, Biden took 296 executive actions on immigration-as compared to 86 during Trump's first year and 472 during the entire Trump presidency, analysts Muzaffar Chishti and Jessica Bolter write in a new article for MPI’s online journal, the Migration Information Source. Immigrant-rights activists accuse the president of delay in unraveling hard-line actions taken during Donald Trump’s presidency and conservatives are critical of what they see as inaction to rising flows at the U.S.-Mexico border. WASHINGTON - President Joe Biden’s administration is being criticized across the political spectrum for moving too slowly on immigration. UNSC Resolution 678 adopted on 29 November 1990 offered Iraq one final chance until 15 January 1991 to implement Resolution 660 and withdraw from Kuwait it further empowered states after the deadline to use "all necessary means" to force Iraq out of Kuwait. The bulk of the coalition's military power was from the United States, with Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and Egypt as the largest lead-up contributors, in that order Saudi Arabia and the Kuwaiti government-in-exile paid around US$32 billion of the US$60 billion cost to mobilize the coalition against Iraq. In response to the joint call, an array of countries joined the American-led coalition, forming the largest military alliance since World War II. Bush deployed troops and equipment into Saudi Arabia and openly urged other countries to send their own forces to the scene. British prime minister Margaret Thatcher and American president George H. The invasion of Kuwait was immediately met with international condemnation, including in Resolution 660 by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), which unanimously imposed economic sanctions against Iraq in Resolution 661. Iraq interpreted the Kuwaiti refusal to decrease oil production as an act of aggression towards the Iraqi economy, leading up to the hostilities. Kuwait's demands for repayment were coupled with its surge in petroleum production levels, which kept revenues down for Iraq and further weakened its economic prospects throughout much of the 1980s, Kuwait's oil production was above its mandatory quota under OPEC, which kept international oil prices down. Varying speculations have been made regarding the true intents behind the Iraqi invasion, most notably including Iraq's inability to repay the debt of more than US$14 billion that it had borrowed from Kuwait to finance its military efforts during the Iran–Iraq War. Initially, Iraq ran the occupied territory under a puppet government known as the " Republic of Kuwait" before proceeding with an outright annexation in which Kuwaiti sovereign territory was split, with the " Saddamiyat al-Mitla' District" being carved out of the country's northern portion and the " Kuwait Governorate" covering the rest. On 2 August 1990, Iraq invaded neighbouring Kuwait, and had fully occupied the country within two days. Spearheaded by the United States, the coalition's efforts against Iraq were carried out in two key phases: Operation Desert Shield, which marked the military buildup from August 1990 to January 1991 and Operation Desert Storm, which began with the aerial bombing campaign against Iraq on 17 January 1991 and came to a close with the American-led Liberation of Kuwait on 28 February 1991. Blue blockers can help a bit at night but still dim the lights. It’s only 10-15 min long and will help you rewire your nervous system to be able to relax faster.ĥ) Avoid viewing bright lights-especially bright overhead lights between 10 pm and 4 am. Here is a simple rule: only use as much artificial lighting as is necessary for you to remain and move about safely at night. Do the Reveri sleep self-hypnosis 3x a week at any time of day. Walker was on the Huberman Lab Podcast and we discussed this in detail.Ĥ) If you have sleep disturbances, insomnia, or anxiety about sleep, try the research-supported protocols on the Reveri app (for iPhone). I do fine with caffeine at 2 pm and I go to sleep at ~10-11 pm. Matt Walker (sleep expert from UC Berkeley) might even say 12-14 hours. 2) Wake up at the same time each day and go to sleep when you first start to feel sleepy. Pushing through the sleepy late evening feeling and going to sleep too late (for you) is one reason people wake at 3 am and can’t fall back asleep.ģ) Avoid caffeine within 8-10 hours of bedtime. No, you don’t have to look directly at the sun, and never look at ANY light so bright it is painful to view! That said, you can’t wear a brimmed hat, sunglasses and remain in the shade and expect to “wake up” your circadian clock. If you live someplace with very minimal light, consider an artificial daytime simulator source.ĭon’t wear sunglasses for this practice if you safely can, but contact lenses and eyeglasses are fine. On bright cloudless days: view morning and afternoon sun for 10 min cloudy days: 20 min very overcast days 30-60 min. Do that again in the late afternoon, prior to sunset. If you wake up before the sun is out and you want to be awake, turn on artificial lights and then go outside once the sun rises. So here is my list for how to get better at sleeping:ġ) View sunlight by going outside within 30-60 minutes of waking. Episode 2 of the Huberman Lab Podcast (Master Your Sleep) is all about that topic, but I wanted to provide a succinct list of the key things for sleep. It ended up being shared more than any other post, which told me that people likely want tools for getting better at sleeping. 2 Huberman Lab Podcast, HLP interview w/Matt Walker - Andrew D. 2 Example (Laplace method)Solve by Laplace’s method the initial value problemy′′= 10,y(0) =y′(0) = 0. TheLaplace methodis advertised as atable lookup method, in which the solutiony(t) to a differential equation is found by looking up the answer in a special integral table. The method obtains a relationL(y(t)) =L(−t), whence Lerch’s cancel- lation law implies the solution isy(t) =−t. Below, we illustrate Laplace’s method by solving the initial value prob- lem y′=− 1, y(0) = 0. (1) In differential equation applications,y(t) is the sought-after unknown whilef(t) is an explicit expression taken from integral tables. 7 Introduction to the Laplace Method The foundation of Laplace theory isLerch’s cancellation law These minor differences distinguishLaplace integralsfrom the ordinary integrals found on the inside covers of calculus texts. The L–notation recognizes that integration always proceeds over t= 0 to t=∞and that the integral involves anintegratore−stdtinstead of the usualdt. Thedirect Laplace transformor theLaplace integralof a function f(t) defined for 0≤t <∞is the ordinary calculus integration problemĠ f(t)e−stdt, succinctly denotedL(f(t)) in science and engineering literature. Important: you need to specify the DELIMITER, which is the character used to separate the values in the CSV file. In my case, it is the C drive and the a folder. In the second line (after the FROM clause), enter the path to your file. In the first line, enter the name of your table. Import the CSV fileĪgain, you can use the Query Tool and type an SQL query. You just created a table! If you don't see it in the tree, right-click on Tables and select Refresh. For now, we won’t worry about the other (more advanced) features here. By clicking SQL, you can view the SQL query used to create the table. Notice that you can set the column to be non-NULL and specify a primary key here as well. We know what data we want to include in each column, so everything should look like this: It's better to learn the basics and avoid making mistakes. If you don't know what data types to enter, I recommend taking the Data Types in SQL course. You’ll also need to specify the data type that each column will contain. Remember that column names must match those in the CSV file. In the same window, click on the Columns tab and add the appropriate columns by clicking the + button. Select Create and then Table.Ī new window will pop up asking you to enter a name for the new table. Instead of writing a SQL Query, you can also right-click on Tables in the tree on the left. Make sure the columns have the same names and values as those in the CSV file. Using the internal Query Tool in pgAdmin, you can first create a table with an SQL query: There are two methods, and I will show you what to do step by step. Let's go back to our characters.csv file and try to import it into our database via pgAdmin. Now we can get down to business and import some data. I assume that you already have Postgres and pgAdmin installed on your computer and that you have them set appropriately. If you would like me to devote an article to the various SQL editors out there – including those for PostgreSQL databases – let me know in the comments. Plus, there are many extensions that allow you to freely adapt the program to your needs.Īlternatives to pgAdmin include DBeaver, Navicat, HeidiSQL, and OmniDB. You can also use the classic console to write in it. PgAdmin allows you to administer databases and their replicas, create all database objects, issue queries, and analyze the query plan (presented in classic or graphic form). Full functionality and no fees make pgAdmin perfect for me. This will be an important argument for many people. It may be used on Linux, Unix, macOS, or Windows, and because it is open-source, it's free. What is pgAdmin? It is a graphical PostgreSQL database management program. It's a great tool that has never let me down. I got used to pgAdmin and honestly I don't see any point in changing to anything else. There are tons of different SQL editors on the market that support PostgreSQL. If you’ve read that article, you know that Postgres is easy to set up and one of the most popular DBMSs in the world. Some time ago, my friend Ignacio showed you how to install and set up PostgreSQL on Windows 10. I think you understand the uses and advantages of CSVs, so let’s move on to the tool we’ll use to import them: pgAdmin. This is a very tiny data set, but you can imagine what it would be like with many columns and thousands of rows. Here’s the same information in CSV format: I wonder if you recognize the data I put there. Have a look at the differences between storing data in a table and storing it in a CSV. In addition, CSVs are text files and thus are quite small transferring even large data sets is not a problem. CSVs are the surest way to save your data they are read by almost all office suites and database management systems (DBMSs). Imagine that you need to export data from a database to a spreadsheet or vice versa. When are CSV files used? Transferring data from one program or platform to another is a main use. This standard is supported by many applications and programs, including Microsoft Office, LibreOffice, and Google Sheets. It is a format for storing data in text files. Don’t worry – it’s easy! What Is a CSV file?ĬSV is short for comma-separated values. We’ll start by explaining what a CSV file is, then we’ll introduce you to pgAdmin and show you how to do the import process. Let's get right into importing CSVs into a Postgres database. Do you work with data and use CSV files? Here is a practical guide on how to import such files into a PostgreSQL database using pgAdmin, one of the best PostgreSQL editors on the market. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end as for tongues, they will cease as for knowledge, it will come to an end. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. It does not insist on its own way it is not irritable or resentful it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. Love is patient love is kind love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. Contribute to the needs of the saints extend hospitality to strangers. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Let love be genuine hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good love one another with mutual affection outdo one another in showing honor. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Romans 12:9-13 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” John 15:9-11Īs the Father has loved me, so I have loved you abide in my love. “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. As someone who is new to daily scripture writing myself, I don’t want to intimidate anyone with a long passage to write during their quiet time with God. I have broken these into multiple days for this scripture writing plan on love. Some of the most powerful chapters on love come from the New Testament. The New Testament also instructs Christians on the importance of loving one another. The New Testament tells Christians so much about Christ’s love for us, even comparing Jesus and the Church as a groom and bride. “therefore I will hope in him.” Micah 6:8Īnd to walk humbly with your God? For that reason, while I have included many beautiful verses from the Psalms, I have also chosen scripture readings from the entire Old Testament. However, I recognize the importance of writing diverse scripture. In fact, I could do an entire scripture writing plan on love from just the Psalms! When I was looking at different lists of Old Testament passages on love, I was surprised by the exclusion of so many Psalms! I’ve been working through a six-week Bible study on the first 30 Psalms, and God’s “steadfast love” comes up over and over. Old Testament Scripture Writing Plan on Love |
